How to Extend the Life of Your Office Carpet

Posted on

Few things make an office look elegant than a pristine and clean carpet. Unfortunately, since people don't remove their shoes when getting into the office, the carpet can be subjected to a lot of dust, mud, and bacteria that lead to wear and tear. While regular vacuuming and brushing will remove some dust and allergens, some dust particle and bacteria are too stubborn. Here are some of the ways you can ensure your office carpet lasts a long time and have a clean office.

Carpet savers

One of the reasons why carpets degrade and tear fast is because of desks, cabinets, and chairs. Furniture leaves dents and impressions on your carpet and with time you notice a hole or several holes where those impacts are found. Carpet savers are placed underneath the legs and corners of chairs and desks so they don't leave deep impressions on your carpet. This also makes it easy to rearrange the office because you don't have to worry about ugly surfaces on the carpet.

Entrance mats

The best way to protect your office carpet from dust and mud that shoes bring is by using an entrance mat right outside the office door. Find a good rug with brushes that can scrub mud and sand off people's shoes before they enter the office. If half of the dirt found beneath the shoes can be left outside, your carpet is much safer, and it will have less wear and tear.

Interior mat

Even if you have an entrance mat where people can scrub off some mud and dust before entering the office, it is still essential to have another rug. An interior mat is usually soft unlike the brush one outside, so it absorbs the remaining dust, wetness and smaller particles from the shoes.

Quarterly commercial cleaning

Even if you vacuum and wipe your carpet every single day, it might not be enough to extend the life of the carpet. Every few months or at least twice a year, a professional cleaner should visit and give the carpet a thorough commercial cleaning. The reason for this is because commercial cleaners have the right equipment and products to remove stubborn stains, dirt, and bacteria that cause wear and tear. They can also remove mildew, mold and liquid spills that are invisible to the eye but can biodegrade the carpet very severely.

A clean and presentable carpet not only makes an office look and feel elegant, but it can also create a calming and relaxed environment for the employees. With regular professional cleaning and protection, a carpet can remain beautiful for many years and give you value for money.
